Inventory of a couch:
If you are able to communicate through language, it may seem that words are simple. They just come to you as they are so ingrained in your brain. Even I forget that just three years ago, I couldn't count above twelve or tell my husband the right words to describe what I wanted from the grocery store. Words come easier now but not like they once did.
Three lines of poetry are not a lot of words but when your Christmas tree is a "triangle thing," three short lines are a research project.
We sit next to each other,
looking down at our worn pedicures,
dry skin peeling and paint chipped.
I remark that I need to trim my long,
My daughter responds,
"You'll never beat my high score at talons!"
I know she is right.
